Assalam The Kedai Mamak is a vibrant and refreshing take on the classic Malaysian mamak restaurant, nestled conveniently on the ground floor of The Hub, Jln Kampung Lalang, Educity in Iskandar Puteri, Johor. This spot offers a modern twist on beloved local flavors, blending the nostalgic charm of a kopitiam with a clean, stylish setting that draws you in the moment you step through its doors.
The cuisine centers around authentic mamak fare—comforting, flavorful, and served with generous portions that make every meal satisfying. Signature dishes like nasi lemak and maggi goreng are standouts, delivering bold, hearty flavors that capture the essence of Malaysian street food. The famed roti canai here truly “slaps,” boasting that perfect balance of crisp edges and soft, fluffy layers, while the teh tarik kaw kaw offers a strong, creamy pull that’s ideal for sipping alongside your meal.
There’s also an enticing variety beyond the mains, as diners can explore Western and Indonesian dishes, reflecting a wide-ranging menu that surprises with its diversity. Noteworthy favorites include the juicy, non-flaky fish and chips, and the must-try nasi goreng ikan masin, a salted fish fried rice cooked with aromatic wok hei that leaves a smoky, unforgettable aftertaste.
The atmosphere at Assalam The Kedai Mamak strikes a perfect balance between retro vibes and contemporary comfort. Clean tiled floors and sleek decor create an inviting and cozy space to relax, whether you choose indoor seating or prefer to enjoy the alfresco option on a pleasant evening. The vibe feels effortlessly cool but still warm and familiar, making it an ideal spot for casual meals or hanging out with friends.
Customer experiences underscore the spot’s appeal: swift service ensures a short wait—just enough time to browse social media or indulge in some light reflection—while the portions are notably generous, perfect for hearty appetites. Friendly and helpful staff further elevate the visit, ensuring each guest feels welcome. Though some note that prices lean a bit higher than usual mamak joints, the quality and overall experience justify the value.
Whether you're craving traditional Malaysian comfort food or seeking a stylish yet unpretentious place to unwind, Assalam The Kedai Mamak offers a culinary and dining experience that resonates deeply. It’s a mamak that’s been refreshed without losing its essence—a true delight for anyone eager to savor familiar tastes in a fresh new setting.

Imagine a mamak went to IKEA and came back looking fresh. That’s this place. It’s like a kopitiam and mamak had a stylish baby — clean tiles, retro vibes, and still got roti canai that slaps. Food? Solid. Got all the usual suspects — nasi lemak, maggi goreng, teh tarik kaw kaw. Waiting time around 5–10 minutes, which is just enough to scroll IG, question life choices, and maybe post a story about your drink. Price a bit atas compared to regular mamak, but hey, you’re not sitting next to a drain this time. Worth it if you want mamak food without sweating through your baju. Come for the food, stay for the vibe — and maybe take one or two aesthetic shots for your feed. Confirm can bluff people say you’re in KL, even if you’re just down the road.

I visited this place during lunch hour. It wasn't very crowded, and the service was quite fast. The food was served in large portions. At first, I thought they offered only a limited menu, but they actually had a wide variety of options, including Western and Indonesian dishes. The atmosphere was cozy and relaxing as well.

Quality food in higher price. Very big portion for their bryani rice. Would recommend their goreng food like maggie goreng mee goreng. For roti just nice only, texture or taste just in standard but not really outstanding . Staff were friendly and helpful.

Mamak food is the best here. Their fish n chips might me small for most however, damn juicy. Its not the flaky kind. Fries a bit too little tbh. The Mee Rojak is good. Portion, fuh baek.

Cozy place to be at. Food portion was huge. Not for small eaters . Ordered a few nasi goreng. One of which is nasi goreng ikan masin (salted fish fried rice) it was SHIOK, not only there are bits of salted fish they even tossed in chunks of chicken meat. It has that wok smell (chao ta smell) which I love. Even Madre who is a picky chef cannot deny that it was delicious. We will definitely come again the next time we're in Iskandar Puteri to try their other dishes. Update 2025 : Dinner, ordered their Sup Kambing but it came 30 mins later, had to ask their staff twice and was informed it was not ready . Anyway the sup came without bread, so you have to order separately. Fortunately the sup was nice.
